History and Background
About: Vintage Synth Lab, formerly known as Wire Audio Electronics Repair was founded by Eric Hold in 2003, providing repair services for a wide variety of electronics musical instruments and pro-audio gear. In 2012, V.S.L. closed its doors, and 3 years later started designing Eurorack modular synthesis products. In 2018, V.S.L. stopped designing new Eurorack products. In 2025, V.S.L. reopened its doors to the Portland, Oregon musical instrument repair scene.
Professional background and experience: With over 30 years of hands-on experience in electronics, Eric's professional background in audio electronics repair includes specializing in vintage analog synthesizer service as well as both tube and solid-state amplifier repair. His career began in 1991 within professional audio manufacturing and repair service centers, and later evolved into running his own shop, Wire Audio Electronics Repair, here in Portland in 2003. The repair shop was renamed Vintage Synth Lab around 2011. Eventually, V.S.L. closed its repair shop doors to pursue other endeavors, including Eurorack modular synthesis product design from 2015-2018. Vintage Synth Lab's repair shop is known for quality service through competent skills and workmanship, combined with a proper education in electronics repair and design.
